Pink ladies raise funds toward chemotherapy chair

The name of the game at the Phillip Island Golf Club last Thursday was not golf, but fun and fundraising, as almost 100 lady golfers threw themselves into a host of festivities to celebrate the Club’s annual Pink Ladies Day this year.

Proceeds from this very special event are to be donated to the Phillip Island Health Hub Auxiliary, to assist them in their quest to fund a chemotherapy chair at the mooted Phillip Island Community Hospital, which is due to open in Cowes by 2024.

It was indeed a sea of pink, as the women, dressed from head to toe in every shade possible to find, teed off in the fun, 13-hole competition, that saw a couple of male golf pros give those who wanted it a helping hand mid fairway to land their pink balls closer to the pin than might otherwise have been the case. For a fee of course, that boosted the day’s fundraising tally.

It was then into a magnificent lunch served by Club volunteers, with raffles, auctions and prizes the order of the day for the next few hours.

Live music was provided by Peter Buitenhaus.

Special thanks go to Jill Zelman and her team of ladies for the effort they have put into the event, and to the many sponsors who supported the day.

Over $7000 was raised.
