3 min read

Seniors

In a strong response to last week's disappointing defeat, the Phillip Island Seniors dismantled Garfield by 84 points.

Phillip Island set the tone early with a 32-point opening term, showcasing quick ball movement, tackling pressure and a cohesive team effort.

By halftime, the scoreboard read 68 to 21 and the Bulldogs looked well and truly in control.

The second half provided more of the same; relentless run, structure and a forward line that capitalised on every opportunity.

Sitting on 139 points by the final siren, Phillip Island restricted Garfield to just 55 points in a dominant four quarter performance.

Jack Taylor was unstoppable up forward, bagging six goals.

He was well supported by Cameron Pedersen and Billy Taylor, who each slotted four, while Nick Anderson jumped in with three majors of his own.

Around the ground, Jaymie Youle and Cooper Walton linked up through the middle and set up attack with precision.

Cameron Pedersen was strong not just up forward, but across the ground with his marking.

After last week's 67-point loss to Nar Nar Goon, this was the exact response the team needed ahead of their upcoming Easter Saturday showdown for the Bulldogs' Round 3 clash against Warragul Industrials.

Final score: Phillip Island 139 def Garfield 55.

Goals: Jack Taylor 6, Billy Taylor and Cameron Pedersen 4, Nick Anderson 3, Hayden Bruce 2, Max Walton, Jaymie Youle and Jay Ladson 1

Reserves

The Phillip Island Reserves bounced back in a big way on Saturday afternoon, notching a well-deserved 79 - 29 win over Garfield.

From the first bounce, the visitors looked slick with ball in hand.

The first quarter was an even battle, but the Island's ability to capitalise on forward entries gave them a narrow edge, taking a nine-point lead into the first break.

Momentum continued into the second term as the midfield, led by Max Mattock and Daniel Caffieri, began to gain the upper hand, pushing the margin out to 13 points at the main break.

By the third quarter, the game broke wide open as the Bulldogs piled on 31 points to Warragul's seven.

Darcy Thompson and Kirby Fuller were standout performers through the middle, while Kohen Beaumont and Oliver Hibbert were reliable across half-back.

In attack, Jack Keating booted two goals, while Ethan Michaelides also snagged a pair in a strong forward-half performance.

Additionally, Ash Smith, Darcy Thompson and Alexander Officer all added to the tally.

They set the tone early with clean ball movement and relentless pressure, jumping out to a 16-point lead at quarter time.

Garfield struggled to match the Island's intensity, managing just one goal in the opening term.

By half-time, Phillip Island had extended their lead to 29 points, with Charles O'Garey leading the charge through the midfield and contributing on the scoreboard with two goals of his own.

The third quarter saw the Bulldogs put the foot down, piling on 19 points.
