Musician Jake Amy is playing a special show to launch their new album “Squeeze” at The Shed, Wonthaggi State Coal Mine, on Sunday June 25.
After finishing VCE at Newhaven College, Jake moved from Bass Coast to Melbourne to study music, and has now carved out an impressive career as a session pianist, producer, audio engineer and social justice journalist.
Jake obtained a Bachelor of Music specialising in Jazz Performance from Monash University in 2019. As part of this course, Jake travelled to Manhattan to complete a short summer course on jazz and improvisation at New York University.
Earlier this year, Jake was one of the artists who performed at the state memorial for Olivia Newton John, alongside tributes by Delta Goodrem, Dolly Parton and Elton John, and has also appeared on shows such as ABC TV’s Spicks and Specks and Studio 10 breakfast show.
Well know to many local music fans, in 2014, Jake received the Senior Jazz Encouragement Award from the Phillip Island Jazz Festival and in 2017 received the Bass Coast Community Foundation’s Performance Award.
Jake has performed with international and local artists and is currently an active member of over 20 musical projects.
The album launch, featuring Jake and band, is presented by the Wonthaggi Theatrical Group.
Doors open at 3pm - show from 3.30pm. This event is wheelchair accessible and offers discounted tickets for First Nations Peoples.
