Bass Coast Surf Film Festival
The Bass Coast Surf Film Festival returns in 2025 with a selection of international and Australian films.
A rally for a safe climate is being held on Easter Saturday in Inverloch.
The Bass Coast Climate Action Network is hosting the event at the Inverloch Hub in A’Beckett Street from 10.45am – 12pm on Saturday, April 16.
"The rally is to call on the people of the Monash Electorate to make their vote count. We must think of the climate and vote accordingly," said Jessica Harrison, Monash Community Climate Coalition spokesperson.
Michael Borgas, a former CSIRO climate scientist will be speaking at the event and will draw attention to the words of UN Secretary-General António Guterres about the IPCC report released last week.
"It is a file of shame, cataloguing the empty pledges that put us firmly on track towards an unliveable world,” said Antonio Guterres.
“Climate activists are sometimes depicted as dangerous radicals. But the truly dangerous radicals are the countries that are increasing the production of fossil fuels.
“Investing in new fossil fuels infrastructure is moral and economic madness. Some government and business leaders are saying one thing — but doing another. Simply put, they are lying."
Bass Coast Mayor, Cr Michael Whelan will also address the rally.
Bass Coast Shire Council declared a climate emergency in 2019 and is aiming for net zero emissions by 2030, “a full two decades before the Federal government,” said Jessica.
Dr Nola Maxfield will talk about the health implications of climate change, which the World Health Organisation (WHO) has labelled “the single biggest health threat facing humanity”.
