The annual surfing events hosted by the Bass Coast Disabled Surfers return to Smiths Beach on March 2, from 11am to 2pm.
The sessions provide a safe and welcoming environment for physically and mentally challenged members of the community and their family and carers to enjoy a day at the beach and experience surfing.
The Bass Coast Branch is in its eighth year of operation and is looking for volunteer to help run the events.
There are both land-based or water roles available for volunteers. You do not need to be a surfer or swimmer to help, the surfing is done in waist deep water.
These are free events for participants.
All the facilities needed are provided including changerooms, lifting equipment, beach wheel chairs and custom made wetsuits.
Fresh fruit and a sausage sizzle will be provided, with water available for refills.
Register (as a volunteer or participant) at Disabledsurfers.org, find the Bass Coast branch, then the events tab.
Please bring your own sunscreen, towel, water bottle, hat and swimsuit/wetsuit if you have one.
