Three PICES exhibitions at Berninneit
2 min read

The PICES Summer Exhibitions return, with three exhibitions at Berninneit, running from December 14 through until the end of January.

Since early 2019, Phillip Island Contemporary Exhibition Space Inc (PICES) has passionately pursued its goal of securing a high-quality purpose-built exhibition space in Cowes to fulfil its aims of supporting contemporary artists from Bass Coast and beyond and bringing contemporary art to the community.

With over 5000 practicing artists throughout the Gippsland region including over 400 on Phillip Island alone, PICES saw a real need to actively develop new opportunities to support contemporary artists and inspire the rapidly expanding number of residents, regular visitors and tourists.

Last summer, in partnership with Bass Coast Shire Council, PICES presented four consecutive weekly Pop Up exhibitions featuring 27 artists, followed by its PICES in Focus Exhibition featuring three renowned artists — painter Mark Schaller, weaver Mae Adams and sculptor Andrew Kasper. The event was very successful and enjoyable for everyone involved

This summer, Phillip Island Contemporary Exhibition Space (PICES), in partnership with Bass Coast Shire Council, presents its sixth Summer Exhibition, which includes the exciting addition of PICES inaugural 50x50 Exhibition.

PICES 50x50 Exhibition December 14 — January 1, features the work of 50 artists. Visitors can explore a rich variety of small, affordable art works including painting, photography, pottery, printmaking, sculpture, and textiles, created by artists from Bass Coast, Gippsland, and beyond. A perfect place to find that special Christmas gift.

Pop Up

From January 4 — 27 the Summer Exhibition continues with two consecutive curated and highly anticipated Pop-Up Exhibitions featuring 22 artists.

Pop Up 1 Exhibition January 4 — 14 showcasing Rob Barron (Pottery); Printmakers Lana de Jager, Liz Tyler and Silvi Glattauer; Martine Zajacek (Collage); and paintings by Jenny Jackson, Julie Lundgren Coulter, Anne Mestitz, Lindy Patterson, Karen Preston, Linda Shaw and Kim Wood.

Pop Up 2 Exhibition January 16 — 27 showcasing paintings of Peter Brook, Stephen Glover, Melinda Holt, Carolyne Jane, Candida van Rood and Rain White; Wendy Habraken-Flack (Drawing); Jillian Mitchell (Photography); Kate Stuart (Pottery); and Kylie Watson (Printmaking).

PICES plays an important role as a bridge between artists and art lovers, collaborating with the new Berninneit Art Gallery in Cowes, Phillip Island to promote contemporary art and provide artists with a prestigious, purpose-built space in which to showcase their work. This exhibition series promises an engaging celebration of regional creativity and talent.
