First The Block, now Idol?

Local performers were agog last week after an online Channel 7 promotion called for Phillip Island auditions for Australian Idol.

"Is the Australian Idol living in Phillip Island or San Remo?" stated the "Phillip Island Auditions" promotion.

"We'd love to hear from you.

"Simply upload a video or send us a link - it's easy."

So the Advertiser investigated and a Channel 7 spokesperson confirmed Phillip Island auditions will begin "as virtual".

"We're excited to see what Phillip Island has to offer and encourage performers from all genres to apply," the spokesperson said.

Interested performers should fill out an application form at idolauditions.com.au/phillip and a producer will be in contact, with callbacks held over Zoom in August.

"We know some of the best talent live in areas outside the capital cities, as realised in previous seasons of Australian Idol," the spokesperson said.

Earlier this year, the Advertiser interviewed top 12 Idol finalist Kiani Smith, who grew up on Phillip Island but now lives in Queensland.

Performers must be 15 to 35 years old (as of October 1, 2024), an Australian, New Zealand citizen or current permanent resident of Australia and not have an existing contract with any other TV show or record label.
