Acclaimed Melbourne Blues artist Lloyd Spiegel is playing at the Westernport Hotel in San Remo on June 7.
In 2023, Lloyd performed over 70 shows in Canada, 50 in Europe and released his 11th album with an extensive 50 show tour across Australia.
Taking a break from that exhausting schedule, the 14-time Australian Blues Award winner is playing just nine venues in Australia this year, all of them in regional Victoria where he started his 30-year career.
"I've been performing in these areas since I was a young teen," said Spiegel of the tour.
"Long before I was touring nationally or overseas, these communities supported me and helped me grow. Nothing feels more like home than playing in my backyard.
"Music venues are struggling at the moment and getting behind the incredible people who work so hard to bring live music to Victorians is definitely a focus for me."
Lloyd performs with his trio, Tim Burnham on drums and Lisa Baird on trombone across regional Victoria throughout June and July, kicking off at the Westernport in San Remo.
Stellar career
Lloyd started his career at 10, winning a school talent show and by 13 he'd formed his first band.
He recorded his first CD at the age of 15 and played at many of Melbourne's best-known venues before heading to the US to ply his trade in the blues scene.
In the intervening decades, Lloyd has performed at venues and festivals across the globe giving him the chance to tread the stage with acts such as Ray Charles, Bob Dylan and Etta James.
Rolling Stone Magazine described him as "a revelation, the consummate performer, an Oz Blues and Roots icon", while Australian Guitar Player magazine called him "a guitarist almost without peer".
"Spiegel deconstructs how the blues guitar is supposed to operate, makes sweet love to it, then kicks it out the back door."
George Vaughan, Host of Saturday Night Blues Review, 91.3 FM said Lloyd's unique style "has surpassed any blues mentor who has taught him. The man is like lightning in a bottle."
Don't miss the Lloyd Spiegel Trio Live at the Westernport Hotel, Friday, June 7 from 9pm.
