Aussie blues man returns to Westernport

At 5pm on Sunday, February 25, Michael Charles brings his guitar-driven contemporary blues sound to the Westernport Hotel in San Remo.

Back in 1984 a young muso from Melbourne decided the time was right to break out on his own. For Michael Charles the next few years were filled with a heavy promotional schedule, writing, recording, touring and honing his style.

In 1989, a turning point in his life and career came when he was invited to appear at Buddy Guy’s Legends in Chicago. He travelled the 12,500 mile and after performing with Mr. Guy, Junior Wells, James Cotton, Eddy “The Chief” Clearwater and many more of the blues’ great in Chicago, Charles returned to Australia.

But within days he re-boarded the plane with the intention of this time staying in America and growing his career there. Not too long after landing, he accepted the offer to join up with legendary “Fast Fingers”, Jimmy Dawkins and toured the USA for two years.

Some thirty years later Michael Charles’ roots are in the USA and his career comprises a catalogue of forty releases, and his Chicago Blues Hall of Fame induction. He continues to record and annually tours non-stop delivering a concert of uniquely original, guitar driven, contemporary blues.

Now celebrating his 40th anniversary, Michael Charles graces the stage at The Westernport Hotel in San-Remo.

Come and share the experience as he conjures up all the memories, the love, and the gratitude to the country and the people where it all started.
