A model display to delight enthusiasts

Model train enthusiasts of all ages are in for a treat.

The Phillip Island and District Railway Modellers is holding their annual model train show on Saturday January 18 and Sunday January 19, at Berninneit, 91-97 Thompson Avenue, Cowes.

The popular display always attracts many visitors and caters for the diehard model railway enthusiast, the budding five-year-old who loves to watch the trains go around, and everyone in between.

There will be fourteen model layouts to view, many with full digital control and authentic sound.

"We will have models ranging in size from the smaller "N" scale, that fit on a door, the popular "HO" & "OO" scales up to the very large "G" scale, that would take over the garden," a group spokesperson said.

"This year the show features four new model layouts, not seen before at our show as well as an extended version of the large, detailed layout depicting an early 20th century Timber mill and township."

For "Thomas" fans there is a is a model depicting the original Sodar as well as a model where young enthusiasts can drive Thomas or Percy around the track.

"Take the opportunity to talk to the exhibitors; they just love talking about model trains and you will find a wealth of knowledge, experience and expertise."

There will also be a large range of second-hand trains for sale for those starting out or those wanting to expand their collections.

Visitors can enjoy an hour or two, rain hail or shine, in air-conditioned comfort at Berninneit.

On Saturday the exhibition will be open to the public from 10am until 5pm, and on Sunday the hours are 10am to 4pm.

"We are grateful for our sponsorship from Bass Coast Shire Council and Westernport Water as well as the support from Branch Line Hobbies in Croydon and Steam Era Models."
