Archies Creek residents Jon von Goes and Celia Church are launching their new album with a special show at Archies Creek Hotel on March 2 at 3pm.
Together they perform as musical duo Jonnie Goes To Church.
The couple moved to Archies Creek a few years back. A part of the migration of music people into the area who have been lured from Melbourne by the music of the Archies Creek Hotel and the fabulousness of the area.
Jon said they’ve been surprised at how much they’ve been welcomed by the locals down here considering they’ve never lived in the country before.
“We had a fear we’d be treated like idiots from the city because we sort of are. That fear has not been realised.”
Celia’s a singer from New Zealand, Jon’s a broadcaster from Melbourne. Celia writes the melodies and sings like an angel. Jon writes the words and sings like a broadcaster.
Celia, as a teenager sang with the Headless Chickens. She moved to Melbourne half a lifetime ago, then she met Jon and her life took a turn.
Jon’s radio show, the JVG Radio Method on RRR is an institution. He’s been presenting the Sunday afternoon show for 25 – 30 years. He can’t remember when he started. These days, he alternates between presenting the show in Melbourne and broadcasting remotely from his shed, known as the Archies Creek Broadcasting Corporation (AC/BC)
The Jonnie Goes To Church self-titled album is a cracker.
Recorded and produced by Craig Pilkington at Audrey studios, it’s a collection of 10 near to true life vignettes.
The pair’s friends in the industry have given the album their stamp of approval.
“These songs and sounds are magnificent, and this old duck will only be satisfied with the recordings in his webbed hands,” said Tim Rogers.
Friend Brian Nankervis said they need to “come and sing that on the radio" while Frente’s Angie Hart described the album as “a beautiful offering of songs”.
The record will be launched on Saturday March 2 in the afternoon at the Archies Creek Hotel. Doors open at 2.30pm.
Jonnie Goes To Church will play with a full band and be supported by Ian Bland, Sarah Carroll and Dr. Pump.
The CD is available now on Bandcamp, there will also be vinyls on sale at the show. You can listen on Spotify as well.
