Students from Years 3 to 6 at Our Lady Star of the Sea Cowes enjoyed an unforgettable sporting experience, thanks to a visit from the Gipp Sport South Gippsland team.

The event introduced the students to wheelchair basketball, a sport that combines inclusivity with physical challenge.

The day began with a focus on safety, as instructors guided the students in manoeuvring their wheelchairs. They learned essential skills, including how to change direction and gradually increase their speed, helping to build their confidence on the court.

As the students became more comfortable in their wheelchairs, the excitement ramped up with the introduction of the basketball. They practised dribbling and shooting while navigating the court, honing their coordination and teamwork skills.

The highlight of the day was the highly anticipated game of wheelchair basketball, where students showcased their newfound skills in friendly competition.

Overall, the event was a resounding success, leaving students with lasting memories and a greater appreciation for adaptive sports. The school community looks forward to more initiatives that promote inclusivity and active participation in various sports.
