Last week, the Cowes Primary School Prep children enjoyed a reading party to celebrate the beginning of their reading journey.
At Cowes Primary School, the first step in teaching children to read is by explicitly teaching sounds with their corresponding letter names.
The school said, in Prep students engage in a decodable reading program, which aligns with current research and the teaching strategies of the Science of Reading and Learning.
The reading party marked the special occasion of taking home their first decodable reading materials.
"Students have been highly engaged and motivated in their reading and the Prep teachers are incredibly proud of their achievements to date," a school spokesperson stated.
