Newhaven College’s Reconciliation Week

Students and teachers at Newhaven College came together to recognise National Reconciliation Week with a series of events and activities.

The College said, at its heart, reconciliation is about strengthening relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non-Indigenous peoples, for the benefit of all Australians. The National Reconciliation Week 2022 theme, “Be Brave. Make Change”, is a challenge to all Australians to Be Brave and tackle the unfinished business of reconciliation so we can Make Change for the benefit of all Australians.

At Newhaven College Reconciliation Week was recognised by a number of events throughout the school including assembly items, pledges and activities. This was highlighted by a school wide Long Walk on Thursday morning as a sign of support and solidarity for the reconciliation movement. Newhaven College has a dedicated Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) committee, led by Grade 4 teacher Fiona Smart, and is committed to ongoing efforts to embed the principles of reconciliation and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.
