Newhaven College has a philosophy of nurturing and encouraging children throughout their school life. This builds a foundation of inner confidence and respect to ground them through adulthood.
Students are encouraged to look at the world beyond themselves and aim to make a meaningful difference. Some of the students who represent these values early in their school life are recognised as leaders among their peers.
Junior School’s student leaders were inducted at their first assembly. All the students in attendance offered their support with riotous applause. The Junior School Captains for 2023 are: Captains – Harper Perry, Alfie Russo; Vice Captains – Edith Jamieson, Flynn Wright; House Captains – Jett Fawaz, Sierra Phillips, Ethan Lynch, Darby Smyth, Molly Baud, Sophie Perry, Leo Christoforou and Oskar James.
Middle School presented their 2023 student leaders at their first assembly. Head of Middle School, Mr Geoff White, explained the importance of leadership and how to lead by example. The Middle School Captains for 2023 are: Captains- Mia Thompson, Aidan Smyth; House Captains – Claire van der Heyden, Aisha Hibbert, Levi Addison, Ania Falzon, Max Brocklesby, Zoe Paterson, Ethan Rhee, Piper O’Brien, Fred Karutz, Billy Fisher, Ruby Taylor and Madeline Kelly; Drama – Sequoia Paterson; Environmental – Ayishika Perera; Music – Anna Dixon, Keely Filsell; Public Speaking and Debating – Ruby Perry; Social Justice – Mayla Genoni, Jemima Fraser; Sport – Harry Bentley, Poppy Miles; and Visual Arts – Evelyn Mulcahy.
At the College’s first all-school assembly, our Year 12 cabinet was inducted by Principal Mr Corr. Each student was welcomed on stage, and applauded by their fellow students, teachers and families in attendance. The four College captains were all presented to the entire school. Niamh Moore summed up the role of captain succinctly, “Being College captain is not only an opportunity to lead but also to represent my peers and school to the wider community. Along with that, I will be a role model for younger students, along with the other school captains and the rest of the college cabinet. I'm very excited to see where this year leads for me, my peers, and Newhaven College.”
