At the start of September, Newhaven College students from Year 1 to Year 12 graced the stage at Berninneit to present magical musical performances over two nights.

On September 3, the Young Maestros Spring Concert provided the opportunity for students from Year 1 to Year 8 to show off their musical talents.

From the youngest members of the Junior School Choir in Year 1 through to Year 8 students in the intermediate concert band, the College has many very eager and talented students with a passion for music.

The evening opened with the guitar ensemble, with strings and concert bands to follow. The junior school choir performed a delightful version of "The Adventures of Alice in Wonderland" by Mark Puddy to finish the night.

On September 4, it was time for the older students to show off their skills.

The night commenced with the guitar ensemble, followed by senior strings, concert bands, junior, middle choirs and senior vocal ensembles, percussion ensemble, senior concert orchestra and finally the big band.

The middle school choir entertained the crowd with the always popular "Build Me Up, Buttercup" by Mike d'Abo and Tony Macouby.

Year 11 student Cecily de Gooyer showed off her incredible talent singing along to "Mr Zoot Suit" by Mark Cally with the Big Band.

Brothers Mackenzie and James Cameron donned their kilts to accompany the Senior Concert Band with the bagpipes and celtic drum during the senior concert band's rendition of "Celtic Farewell" composed by Michael Sweeney.

Newhaven College's Director of Music, Matthew Goss is incredibly proud of the College's Music Students and teachers.

"The arts are valued and embedded in the day-to-day life of the College," he said.

"I strongly believe we are fortunate to have such support from our entire College community."

Mr Goss also praised the music staff.

"Our dedicated and talented music staff go above and beyond each and every day with their students. Whether as part of their one-to-one teaching in the individual music tuition program, part of the string program or rehearsing the big band, their passion for music is infectious."

A Newhaven College spokesperson stated the College "continues the tradition of nurturing the musical soul of each student, providing a place to learn, collaborate and rehearse together and build on what is already a stunning collective of budding musicians".

The College's Performing Arts Wing (PAW) is used daily by Prep- Year 12 students for a variety of one-on-one lessons, choir practice, groups and ensembles. Music camps are also an important part of the students' musical journey, with the most recent camp being on site at the PAW with 70 students, held over three days.

"With ongoing tuition from the College's formidable music teachers and tutors, Newhaven College music students are supported to reach their highest potential," the College spokesperson said.

"Each student is encouraged to discover their unique expression of music while developing confidence, ease, excellence and enjoyment each step of the way.

"The College believes stars of the future are on campus right now, learning their artistry while sharing their talents with other students, parents and the whole community."
