Newhaven College offers new scholarship in Peter Reith’s name
1 min read

The newly established Peter Reith Scholarship is open to all students entering Year 10 or 11 in 2024.

Peter Reith AM is best known for his career in politics where, amongst other roles, he was deputy leader of the Liberal party under Prime Minister John Howard.

In the mid-1970s, before he entered politics, Peter was working as a solicitor on Phillip Island. It was in the living room of Peter’s home in Cowes in 1976 that interested parties gathered with the idea of establishing a Christian community school on Phillip Island.

Peter’s vision was for a school that co-operated between all Christian denominations, committed to academic excellence, a global view on education and a strong commitment to the community.

Due to Peter’s determined efforts, along with a small number of committed volunteers, the school was opened in 1980.

Peter is truly the founding father of Newhaven College. This scholarship is in recognition of Peter’s extraordinary contribution.

The Peter Reith scholarship will be awarded to a student who, like Peter, strives to make a positive difference to the world through their actions.

Whilst exceptional academic performance is not necessarily required, an above-average academic performance is expected.

Applications are now open and close on Friday April 28.
