It’s cool to be kind
1 min read

San Remo Primary celebrated World Kindness Day on November 13.

The school described it as an important day for the school on its Respectful Relationship calendar.

“As part of the teaching and learning the students discussed and completed activities on how to be kind, and what it means to be kind to others and yourself,” said Principal Karen Bowker.

“They were exposed to the idea of the small acts of kindness having a domino effect on the community, that one small thing can spread to the next person and then the next.

In the garden a display was installed to represent the students being the ‘i’ in kind.

Students jumped at the chance to be in a photo.

“The students were interviewed at lunchtime and were asked ‘What would you do as a small act of kindness for someone else or yourself?’,” Ms Bowker said.

“Responses varied from giving someone a hug, to helping an elderly person across the road, to helping someone if they were hurt or crying.

“They also said that sometimes to be kind to ourselves we need to give ourselves some time out and even hug a tree to be kind to the environment.”

During assembly a poem of kindness was read out as students sprinkled a little kindness on the families in the audience, who received little treats with little sayings on them.

“This really put a smile on the students and teachers faces and certainly did for the parents as well.

“Thank you to our Student Support Leaders, Amy, Pat and Asha for helping put together the assembly idea and making the treat packs,” said Ms Bowker.

“It sure does feel good being kind!”
