Honours at State Final for Bass Coast College

A team from Bass Coast College (BCC)  was awarded honours in the state final of Tournament of Minds at Latrobe University this month.

The school-based competition runs across Australia, New Zealand and South East Asia and requires a team of up to seven students to produce a solution to an open ended problem.

After winning their regional final at Federation University, the Language and Literature team of six girls from BCC delivered a presentation addressing the problems of sexism in modern culture.

The team used poems of Robert Frost and Edward Lear to creatively address the issue, with Dudley Campus Manager Nick Sibly saying the team should be very proud of their efforts.

"We're so pleased with how they approached the challenge as a young team," said Assistant College Principal Emma Harris.

BCC has a history of success in the Tournament of Minds competition, and entered teams in the Language Literature, Social Sciences and STEM categories at the regional final earlier this year.

The teams were required to address a number of criteria during the competition, and all team members made a meaningful contribution to their presentations, said Nick Sibly.
