This year we are celebrating excellent NAPLAN results in numeracy and reading.

We have been focusing on improving student outcomes in numeracy for four years, even during the pandemic.

Students at Newhaven Primary have been creative in animation, movement, dance and drama each term in the performing art space.

In term one, our grade six students worked with Kids Thrive to make a short animation film titled HOME, which was entered into the Bass Coast Short Film Festival and won.

Students also wrote and performed a song about their Co-Vid experience.

In term two, our annual student led leadership program, Kids as Catalyst program, commenced with our grade five students.

Students connected with community groups to work together to bring about a positive change.

Students in the Dream Seekers group worked with Interchange Gippsland, their community action partner to put on a rock concert at school with the Snakes and Eagles band and organised a gold coin donation for the band to buy more instruments.

We had two groups visit Churchill Island.

Seniors Will Travel worked with their community action partner Jess from MECWAC to encourage elderly citizens to visit Churchill Island to become more social.

The Bandicoot Bandits worked directly with Churchill Island to care for the animals.

The Rubbish Sucks group created a sculpture made of rubbish collected around Phillip Island.

Our third performing arts event this year was a whole school Bollywood extravagance with Parvyn Singh and Josh Bennett, who workshopped with the students for four days and then put on a spectacular concert.

Thanks to School Council for supporting our Artist in Residence Program.
