Readers respond to PICAL plea
1 min read

A number of recent donations have, once again, reinforced the community's support for Phillip Island Community and Learning Centre (PICAL).

The donations, including a significant quantity of cleaning products from Newhaven College, as well as two new freezers from members of the community, will assist PICAL as it continues to provide vital services, programs and connections for the people of Phillip Island.

The donation of $2500 worth of cleaning products from Newhaven College will help PICAL to reduce funds spent on cleaning products for PICAL's facilities at Warley Avenue and Settlement Road in Cowes.

In addition, a recent article in the Phillip Island and San Remo Advertiser highlighted PICAL's need for a new freezer for its food relief pantry.

"Thanks to the Advertiser we were able to spread the word about our need for a new freezer and we were stoked with the response," explains David Rooks, Centre Manager at PICAL.

Since then, Theresa Ford, PICAL pantry volunteer, and her mother donated a new freezer while a second person, who read the article and wishes to remain anonymous, donated $1500 towards an upright freezer for PICAL's commercial kitchen.

The commercial kitchen is where PICAL's cooking groups meet to use food from the pantry to make fresh homemade meals for those who are experiencing food insecurity.

"As a not-for-profit community centre we are grateful to Newhaven College, Theresa and her mother, as well as the anonymous reader of the Advertiser," says David.

"Every donation makes a huge difference to PICAL and the people who access our programs and services."
