New manager sought for next phase of PICAL

The PICAL Community and Learning Centre is seeking a new General Manager.

After four years leading PICAL through a series of significant changes, the current Centre Manager Greg Thompson is standing down after June 30.

President of the PICAL Committee of Management, Graeme Turner said “we really need a special type of person to replace Greg. We need someone who is passionate about supporting the Phillip Island community”.

“We need someone who has a good understanding of community development principles and experience in leading a diverse team of paid and volunteer staff.

“The successful applicant will need to commence in early June, and will receive an extensive handover from Greg.”

Outgoing manager Greg Thompson described the job as “extremely challenging” but also extremely rewarding.

“Not only is the PICAL Manager a leader of a large workforce, but this position is also a key representative, advocate and spokesperson for the community, particularly for those people who don’t have a voice,” he said.

“It is also a very diverse and complicated range of essential services that PICAL delivers, where no two days are ever the same, but the work is always interesting and satisfying.”

President Graeme Turner said the role was an opportunity for someone to bring their own management flavour to the next phase of PICAL.

“We have a new Committee who will also help ease someone into the new role; a new facility; and a range of exciting new business growth opportunities.”

PICAL is one of the largest volunteer organisations on Phillip Island, and is the meeting hub for many community groups.

It is one of the largest charities on the island and its very active Food Relief service is available every weekday.

PICAL also hosts a Services Australia agency, which provides the community with access to Federal government services, and is also the only nearby adult learning outlet.

The PICAL Manager position is a permanent part-time role (30 hours per week).

Interested applicants should contact Graeme Turner to find out more, at president@pical.org.au.
