Bass Coast Council Mayor Cr Rochelle Halstead will be the guest speaker at San Remo's Anzac Day commemoration.
She will be joined by three secondary school captains, one from Newhaven College and two from Bass Coast College.
Encouraging us all to reflect on the freedoms we enjoy thanks to those who came before us. Cr Halstead said, "Anzac Day is a time for us to come together as a community to honour the courage, sacrifice and service of all those who have served and continue to serve our country."
She will attend the dawn service in Bass before the 10.45am commemoration at the San Remo Cenotaph on the foreshore opposite the supermarket.
"My fellow councillors will be attending services across Bass Coast as we pay our respects on behalf of the community," she added.
Members of the small committee organising San Remo's service, always look forward to the speeches delivered by the senior school students as they offer a youthful perspective on the need for remembrance.
Representatives of San Remo and Newhaven primary schools will also be there to lay a wreath and others in the community are invited to do so too.
Vietnam veteran John Methven OAM will act as MC while Peter Buitenhuis will play the Last Post and Reveille. The Ode will be recited by John Turner Sqn Leader (Ret'd).
Morgan and Shiree Mountford, who have just taken over as owners of the Westernport Hotel, are happy to continue the town's tradition of the two pubs hosting morning tea following the commemoration. The San Remo Hotel will host Remembrance Day 2025 and Anzac Day 2026.
The service is conducted under the auspices of the museum sub branch of the Vietnam Veterans Association of Australia.
