Mia Bowtell from Newhaven Primary School, winner of the Bass Coast Rotary Public Speaking Competition.
Grade 6 student at Newhaven Primary School, Mia Bowtell won the Bass Coast Rotary Public Speaking Competition.
Held last week at the Wonthaggi Cinema, Mia’s speech on sustainability was thought provoking with a personal experience included.
She spoke of hydro-power, wind turbines and the danger of nuclear power.
Mia delivered her speech with emotion, humour and a bunch of coriander at the end!
Her classmates were right behind her and after the school try outs said: “Mia’s is the best speech so she should represent the school.”
Her peers believed that she had a great chance of winning and their faith was well placed.
Teacher Liam Jury had the difficult task of choosing a representative for the school from a strong field.
He said the conviction of her peers and their full support made the task a little easier.
Newhaven Primary School is very proud of Mia’s achievement as are her family Mat, Yuka, Sam and Lisa.
