Glen Marshall’s South Gippsland Caravan Repairs offers a van detailing service, to help maintain and extend the life of your RV.
A new Cowes business will help keep your RV in top condition.
With caravan sales booming, Glen Marshall has picked a perfect time to launch his new business, South Gippsland Caravan Repairs.
With more than 20-years’ experience in the panel industry, Glen has worked on a lot of caravans and is now focusing exclusively on caravan maintenance and repair.
A keen caravaner himself, he said the business provides a van detailing service, to help maintain and extend the life of your RV.
“The majority of caravans these days are made from fibreglass, which is lighter and has better insulation. But you’ve got to keep the polish up to the van, to stop the surface breaking down.”
The impact of direct sunlight and UV radiation causes oxidisation of the surface.
“A brand-new gel coat caravan can break down within a month,” Glen said, “so a good maintenance program is important.”
If you notice the surface of the van is fading, it’s time to act … and sooner rather than later.
“The longer you leave it, the harder it is. The earlier you react the less damage is caused.”
A maintenance service includes a machine cut and polish and on average takes about a day and a half. Professional buffing in most cases can remove scratches from caravan Perspex windows and they usually come out looking like new. A windows-only buffing service is available as well as window replacement if required. Glen can also repair scratches and dents.
To keep your RV looking its best, inside and out, an interior cleaning service is also available.
The Covid pandemic has seen a surge in popularity for caravans. Eager campers can expect to wait up to 12 months for a new van, and quality second-hand RVs are hard to find.
Which makes protecting and maintaining your current van even more important, with most polish manufacturers recommending applying it every six to 12 months.
“I was up in the Northern Territory recently and every second vehicle was a caravan,” Glen said.
“Because of the pandemic, people are buying them and travelling within Australia. You’ve got to keep the polish up to the van, to stop it breaking down.”
