Island Ward: Tracey Bell

I care about a community for everyone - inclusive for people of all ages and cultures where all can participate, be engaged, feel connected and cared for. I am running as a candidate because our growing community deserves better delivery of the basics. I value honesty, transparency and community, and stand for:

> Building community: supporting families, new residents, and visitors to feel connected and cared for.

> Youth engagement: creating opportunities for youth to participate, contribute, and thrive. I'm dedicated to creating safe spaces for our young people including:

  • Setting up a youth resource centre;
  • Establishing safe bike paths in built-up areas; and
  • Building the long-promised recreation reserve.

> Sustainable development: balancing environmental responsibility with economic opportunity.

> Responsible tourism: protecting our natural and cultural heritage for the next generations.

We need a council that embraces change, responds to our needs, and prioritises our community's immediate concerns, especially when it comes to managing the influx of tourists at peak periods and how that impacts our community and our wildlife.

I deeply care about the kind of world we will leave for our children. My son and I are proud to call Millowl our home, where we live, work and learn together. We're actively involved in sports and other activities which fuel my passion for fostering a strong, vibrant community and achieving the best outcomes for our Island.

As the mother of a school-aged child, I understand the joys and challenges of family life. Working at Bass Coast Health gives me a deep appreciation for our community's diverse needs. In my professional life, I have gained valuable experience in government, healthcare, and tourism.

Prior to moving to Phillip Island, I was the director of OTA - Overland Travel Adventures, a tour company based in Kenya operating tailor-made tours throughout East Africa. I consistently advocated for responsible tourism and have a proven track record of ensuring local communities reap the benefits of tourism in their area.

I've also worked as an Analyst with the Department of Defence in Canberra and studied a Masters degree in International Relations, a Bachelor of Arts (Politics) and a Bachelor of Business (Marketing).

Throughout my career, I have demonstrated leadership, community involvement, and accountability. I'm passionate about community development and taking action to improve the lives of those around me. If elected as an independent councillor, I promise to listen, be accountable, and work tirelessly to achieve the best results for our community.

I am honoured to step forward to serve the people of Phillip Island. Together, we can make our island an even better place to live.

I'm keen to hear issues and ideas from the community. You can find me at the market at St Philip's (corner of Thomson Avenue and Church Street) on September 28 and October 12 from 9.30am-12pm.
