Island Ward candidate: John Trigt
2 min read

If I am elected to council, I will endeavour to work with my fellow ward councillors as well as all other Bass Coast councillors to support me in the following.
Oppose any further reduction of car parking on Phillip Island.

  1. I will only support State Government rate cap rises, strongly opposing any other council additional rate rises requests.
  2. Improve our community engagement process on all platforms.
  3. To introduce a once-a-year opportunity to dispose hard rubbish free of charge at a council waste facility.
  4. Continue the freeze on current township boundaries.
  5. Stop any push to rezone sensitive coastal areas for large scale tourism developments. Rescind the motion to allow this happening (BURT).
  6. Take back control of council, by way of more openness and transparency; move a motion to introduce a Transparency Hub.
  7. Continue with the extra red bin waste collection over the Christmas period.
  8. Rescind the motion of the Cowes Streetscape. In other words, leave Thompson Avenue a two-way street and keep the parking as is. Then use that money to rezone the Carnival Land and make a start to the recreation master plan. Starting the building of the long-awaited aquatic centre, while starting the new football/sporting complex. We have been told our Phillip Island Football Netball Club is the biggest in Gippsland. However, its facilities are too small and inadequate. The Aquatic Centre will complement both the sporting community while improving the health and wellbeing of our residents and tourists alike. We need to remember Phillip Island is one of the major tourist locations in Australia, let s make it better.
  9. I will have regular monthly meetings for the ratepayers at a council facility potentially, Cowes' Berninneit centre.
  10. Note: I will endeavour to represent all ratepayers and residents of the Island ward. I believe we should all work in council for the combined benefit of all ratepayers or residents of the Bass Coast Shire.

Working with my fellow ward councillors and other councillors we will achieve the best outcome for the Island Ward as well as the entire Bass Coast community.
